If you find a lost dog or cat in the Randburg area please bring it to the SPCA, or if safe to do so keep the animal in your home or yard and call us to come and collect it. We'll check to see if it has been microchipped and try to trace the owner. You can assist by asking round the neighbourhood in which the animal was found to see if anyone is missing their pet. Your cooperation helps reunite lost pets with their families
As the munipicial pound for the Randburg area by law the Randburg SPCA must shelter a stray animal for seven days before offering the animal for adoption. This is to allow the legal owner time to claim their pet. If the animal is not claimed by the owner, they become available for adoption by the public, subject to an adoption procedure.
What to do if you have Lost your Pet
The most important thing you can do is to visit us and other SPCAs in your area to ensure that you are checking the kennels for your dog. In the interim, these are the steps you can follow:
Contact us so that we can complete a Lost Report. We will ask you to provide as much information as possible and then email a photograph of your pet.
Report your missing pet to ALL animal welfare organisations. Each organization operates independently, so reporting to multiple entities ensures a comprehensive search.
Report your missing pet to ALL veterinary practices in and around your area.
Tell your neighbours. Animals often return to familiar surroundings so let your community be your eyes and ears.
Make flyers and distribute them in your neighbourhood and/or send a recent photo to your neighbourhood Whatsapp and other social media groups.

Ask your Neighbourhood Watch / Security Company to be on the lookout for your pet. Provide patrollers with a recent photograph of your missing pet.
Remember, sterilised pets are less likely to wander – and having your pet microchipped increases the chances of finding him or her. At the very least your pet should have a collar and tag attached with your name and contact number on it.
Important
When claiming a pet, please be aware that proof of ownership is required and that a statutory municipal fee will be charged. This fee covers the pound fee, transportation costs, microchip, and any veterinary expenses incurred during their stay with us.
Under municipal law, anyone who finds a stray animal must report the date, time, and description of the animal to us within 24 hours. Finders may not keep an animal without following the legal process.
